Hats off and an huge thank you to the youth of Fletcher UMC for their Soles for Souls shoe drive! According to HSC board member and clothing closet lead Companion, Linda McCracken, “they gathered 275 pairs of shoes for our Haywood Street Outfitters this year. The shoes were tied or rubber-banded together in pairs and bagged by sets of 10 pairs. We unbagged them and put them in boxes by sizes. We are putting them out each week as our shelves empty. So far the inventory has been more than adequate to keep up with demand, and we are so very grateful, especially with the cold and rain we have had this spring. There has been great need for shoes.

“The youth asked ahead of time what kind of shoes we wanted and needed. We told them athletic shoes of all kinds and black work shoes. They delivered exactly that plus some leather upper dress shoes for job interviews, and some hiking boots and work boots with steel toes. Some shoes were like new and all were in great shape. Our continued thanks to these hard working, generous youth!”

In the photo below, Companion Lora Downs shows off some of the shoes that were donated.
