WELCOME FROM HAYWOOD STREET:

UPDATES:

Kerri works as Assistant to the Director at Haywood Street Respite. Currently, she is also helping Hannah with Companion coordination. You may see her leading meals, and for a little while, she may be one of the people responding to your calls and emails. (click here to hear her “hello”)

We’re in it together at Haywood Street. Thank you for supporting our modified roles as we do all we can to care for our community.

The Downtown Welcome Table is now serving over 400 meals, three days per week. We have also committed to providing 50 meals on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays to those who are now being sheltered in place at Harrah’s Cherokee Center.

This week, we wanted to extend our gratitude to partner restaurant, 12 Bones, and supplier, Performance Food Group. Every Friday, 12 Bones owners and staff receive and begin preparing the Saturday Welcome Table meal with food donated from PFG. On Saturdays, they come onto campus and help us feed and love on our community. You can read more about how the people of this establishment are helping multiple agencies at this time.

A big “Thank you!” to ENO for their generous donation of camping gear for our unhoused Friends.

This week, we moved 8 of our most vulnerable, unhoused Friends into a nearby hotel. After a two-week quarantine and testing provided by Dale Fell, these Friends will move into Haywood Street Respite for the duration of the shelter in place order. We give thanks for the many blessings which have allowed us to re-open Respite.

CURRENT COMPANION OPPORTUNITIES:

1. The Dogwood Health trust is ensuring that all staff and companions have appropriate PPE. We are, however, now accepting donations of gloves, masks and bandanas which we will distribute to our Friends. Donations can be made on Tuesdays from 9 AM – 12 PM at the back, double-door entrance to the kitchen.

2. For our temporarily off-site Respite — we are still in need of overnight support. Please contact Hannah if you are able to help.
