A HAYWOOD STREET REFLECTION BY: JANINE
This week, Janine shares her story about why she chose to donate toothbrushes and toothpaste to Haywood Street…
As a teenager I volunteered for T.O.R.C.H. Teens Out Reach Through Christian Help sponsored by the Methodist Church I attended. We volunteered on Saturday’s at housing developments in Cleveland, Ohio along with nursing homes and hospitals. When my children were teenagers I wanted to acquaint them with the act of service. My daughter was a Candy Striper at the Children’s Hospital where I worked and my son joined me serving meals at a church-run kitchen. He noticed that on the take-away table there were never men’s clothes. He and his dad cleaned out their closets and made a donation. All the clothes were taken the first day! He also noticed that when it came to toiletries that there was always shampoo and soap but never toothbrushes and toothpaste so he used his allowance and made a donation. Every brush and tube was taken! I wanted to make a holiday donation and this story came to mind!!
Thank you to all who make financial and in-kind donations to Haywood Street. Your given-with-love-gifts help make our ministry go ’round.
