A HAYWOOD STREET REFLECTION BY: CYTHERA

I have been blessed with a life that includes a roof over my head. I have known throughout my life that when I struggle, I can find support.  Life shows us beauty and life shows us destruction. We are constantly balancing the swing between these two spaces. Sometimes connection to hope and faith in the journey feels easy. And sometimes it feels like the light will never return. But even at my darkest moments, I have had a friend or family member to turn to and I know that they will sit with me there.

The family I have met at Haywood street is a beautiful and sacred example of this connecting force. Week after week, a family gathers and holds space for each other. This family feeds and is fed. The powerful symbol of the nourishing kitchen is always present. Warm food, smiling eyes, open hearts. I have so much gratitude for this family and for the space it holds for me and the members of my community. I don’t know everyone who is a part of this family, but I do respect each and every one of them for being a part of it and for loving and nurturing in the way they know how. We are all doing the best we can with the life that is ours. I feel supported in the life that is mine by the family that Haywood Street Congregation is to me and to this beautiful community.
